All About AVA
Below you can find information on the band Angels and Airwaves. Most information came from Wikipedia.org, but check out all the credits here.
Biography
Angels & Airwaves is an alternative rock band that was formed by former blink-182 and Box Car Racer guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge after he left blink-182. The band includes David Kennedy notably from Over My Dead Body, Hazen Street, and guitarist on Box Car Racer, and current Offspring drummer Atom Willard. Angels & Airwaves released their first single, "The Adventure", on May 18, 2006 and their debut album, We Don't Need to Whisper, on May 23, 2006. Bassist Ryan Sinn, formerly of The Distillers, left the band in early 2007. Former 30 Seconds to Mars bassist Matt Wachter joined the band after Sinn's departure. The band is currently recording their second album I-Empire which is expected to be released in October 2007.
Formation and We Don't Need to Whisper
Tom DeLonge began working on the debut album, shortly after blink-182 broke up in February 2005. As rumours were floating around about the band's "indefinite hiatus", DeLonge chose to abstain for half a year, from any interviews surrounding the issue and his future plans. Instead he concentrated on writing and recording in his home-based studio. In September 2005, he finally spoke publicly in Kerrang! magazine, where he unveiled the name of his new band "Angels and Airwaves" (shortened to AVA). Upon fiddling randomly for several weeks with the AAA logo, Tom suddenly realized that if he were to invert the middle A into what appeared to be a V, he would have the name of his daughter, Ava. This was too good an opportunity for Tom to miss. The band included his friend and guitarist David Kennedy from Box Car Racer, The Offspring drummer Adam "Atom" Willard and former The Distillers bassist Ryan Sinn. Tom Delonge first released information about Angels And Airwaves and their debut album on a message board at the webzine absolutepunk.net, dubbing it "the best fucking album anybody has heard in 20 years."
Originally, "Valkyrie Missile" was slated for release via iTunes on 13 December 2005, DeLonge's 30th birthday. However, due to discussions with their record label, Geffen, the band decided to push the release date back. Instead, the Angels and Airwaves website produced the first ever glimpse at the movie currently in production, a one-and-a-half minute long trailer featuring portions of the delayed song.
Angels & Airwaves released both a music video and a short film for their first single, "The Adventure"; the band also released a short film for "It Hurts" via the band's official website. Both are short sci-fi films and together form the first part of a proposed ten-part series, following the cast's struggle through an unfamiliar world. On 3 October 2006, the band released the third installment in the series, "The Gift".
"Do It for Me Now" was released as the second single in the US, while in the UK "It Hurts" was released as the second single. The music video for "It Hurts" is the short-film released on 18 April 2006 and was available to select on the UK music television channel Kerrang!.
The band played numerous one-stop dates including the UK's Give It a Name festival in April 2006. The band also played on The Late Show with David Letterman on 15 May 2006. They also performed two shows at London's Hyde Park and the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester supporting the Foo Fighters on their successful In Your Honor tour in June 2006. Following these shows, the band embarked on their first full-length tour, which was headlined by Taking Back Sunday and supported by Head Automatica and The Subways.
Before the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, DeLonge revealed that "The War" would be the next single to be released and the short film was released 27 October 2006.
Star Of Bethlehem
In September, 2006, on a MySpace bulletin, DeLonge revealed the band had recorded a new song, which is over 8 minutes long, called "Star of Bethlehem". The band debuted the song at a concert in Brisbane, Australia on October 19, 2006. The full song can now be heard on the band's MySpace, and an edited four minute version is included on the KROQ 2006 Christmas CD. Videos of the band performing the song in concert have surfaced on YouTube as well. "Star of Bethlehem" is noted to be featured on the new upcoming full length album "I-Empire".
Ryan Sinn departure and I-Empire
On April 23, 2007, bassist Ryan Sinn's 28th birthday, it was announced that he did not play a free Earth Day concert at the M.I.T. campus the day before (April 22, 2007) due to difficulties with the band. Following this incident, on 15 May 2007, Sinn posted on the Army of Angels fan club message board stating that indeed it was true he is no longer part of Angels & Airwaves. He was said to have received a call on the evening of 19 April 2007 concluding his relationship with the band.
DeLonge has since talked about Sinn's departure, telling Kerrang "He's a really great person and a really great bass player. But we had different priorities and he had things going on in his life that he needed to take care of. The rest of us were relying on him to tackle those things, but he couldn't do it. And so it put him into a defensive position."
Matt Wachter, previously of 30 Seconds to Mars, covered for him for the tour and later was confirmed as a permanent member of Angels and Airwaves.
Angels and Airwaves are currently back in the studio preparing their second album. In an interview with alternative radio on May 20, 2007, DeLonge said that the album was 60-70% complete and that the record should be out in September or October 2007. Tom also stated that the album would continue the element of the first album but "times ten." On May 28, 2007, videos were posted on the official website answering questions from fans.
On 30 May 2007, Tom Delonge stated in an interview with Kerrang that the new album would be titled I-Empire and would be released on Universal/Island records.
On 14 June 2007, the band had an online chat with fans. The band said that the album would have ten tracks on it, and they are also working on acoustics for each song. Rumours say that the band stated on the chatline that the track 'Star of Bethlehem' would be featured on the new album, but this statement was not mentioned at all in the conversation with the fans.
On 18 June 2007, the band released a newly designed website depicting a motorcyclist and a flash application with flashing text including "I-Empire, Fall 2007". The flash application also plays a short music clip, presumably from "I-Empire", along with a portion of the message from President Eisenhower via the Project SCORE Satellite in 1958. The portion of this message included on the website was "Through the marvels of scientific advance, my voice is coming to you from a satellite circling in outer space... Through this unique means I can say to you and to all mankind, America's wish for peace on Earth" The flash application ends with the quotation "If I had my own world... I'd build you an empire..."
On 12 July 2007, AVA posted a myspace blog, which stated that "The adventure continues 7.16.07." Along with the blog, the band's myspace headline was changed to "Secret Crowds Rise Up and Gather." In the Army of Angels chat, there was a question about song titles, and AVA said one of the working titles was Secret Crowds. On July 16 2007, AVA posted a new video on their website with reviews of "We Don't Need to Whisper" accompanied by clips of previous videos and with "Star Of Bethlehem" playing in the background.
On July 16 2007, the Angels & Airwaves website was changed to feature a teaser trailer in the startup. The trailer features the song Star Of Bethlehem playing in the background while concert footage, quotes from magazines about Angels & Airwaves and members from the band riding on motorcycles and riding in a truck. At the bottom, it says "10.07 I-Empire".
In one of the July issues of Kerrang! there are 5 confirmed songs. Secret Crowds, Breath, Sirens, Star Of Bethlehem, and Everything's Magic.
